Updated Heritage Guidelines for Property Owners

De Rust is a Heritage Village and as such there are a number of basic requirements which are necessary for all home owners to follow. These are:

  • No building older than 60 years old may be altered in any way without a formal application to the Heritage Officer at the Oudtshoorn Municipality being made for a Permit – see below on website for Form.
  • All alterations (both exterior and interior) require the necessary plans and description of the alterations/additions planned for submission to the Joint Permit Committee in Oudtshoorn.
  • Owners are also responsible for the submissions and costs of a Permit Application to Heritage Western Cape following approval by the Joint Permit Committee. (HWC Permit Form also available below on Website)
  • Following approval by the Joint Permit Committee the proposed changes will be submitted to the Oudtshoorn Municipality.
  • Once the required Permit Approvals have been granted by both the Oudtshoorn Municipality and Heritage Western Cape building work/renovations may then commence.
  • The Oudtshoorn Municipality Building Inspector will make regular visits as required to ensure compliance with the Permit requirements.
  • De Rust Heritage is available for advice and assistance to De Rust homeowners at all stages of the process. For further details contact us on Mobile: 082 373 6373 or 082 777 1519
