Sponsored Heritage Events and Eco-Tours Available in De Rust
De Rust Historical Tour: This tour is available through the De Rust Heritage website - see further details of the "De Rust Heritage Walking Trail" which can be done using your cellphone or tablet. Alternatively it is also available on a individual guided basis through De Rust Heritage.
Tour of Meiringspoort: Details are available on this website under "Meiringspoort: The Facts" or a guided tour can also be arranged on an individual or group basis.
Swartberg Hiking Trail: This new hiking trail will shortly be available on an individual self-guided basis or alternatively with an experienced guide. There are also different distances available, from shorter ones for novices to longer trails for the experienced hiker. Further details to follow shortly.
The "De Rust Heritage Eco-Festival 2020": A Heritage Eco-Festival was planned to be held in De Rust over the period late September/early October, 2020 to coincide with the "Spring Flowers" in all their glory at that time. This included all aspects of De Rust including the rich historical background of the Village as well as the story of the pelargonium (geranium) which originates in Meiringspoort and is the direct ancestor to the modern day geranium found worldwide. In addition, other related heritage and eco events including "fun-walks" will be available for both adults and children over the week-end.
The "De Rust Heritage Festival 2021": Due to the Corona-19 Virus it is now planned to hold the De Rust Heritage Festival to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the Village during 2021. Events will include the following:

A fully conducted tour of the Village based on the updated De Rust Heritage Walking Trail
- A conducted tour of Meiringspoort including visits to the Waterfall (Mermaid story) and Herries Monument and the story of the Pink Elephant
- Visits to historic farms in the area including Doornkraal and Vlakteplaas and its unique Statue
- A historic dinner/film evening using historic films including De Rust District locations.
- Historic walks in the Swartberg including the story of Denys Reitz during the Boer War
